I’m sure you’ve seen the profile I’ve written about David Airey before in my previous project… he is someone who I am taking a lot of inspiration from and I love his style in every project he submits. On his website, he explains briefly about the making of his logo. What I found really interesting was the amount of logos that were similar, but also a lot that had almost no relevance to what he did as a designer. This reminded me of his way of divergent thinking and seeing what ideas he could pull out of the bag.
Although his logo is simply his name with no attention to detail, you can see he has thought of a whole variety of different ways he could stylize his logo with imagery, positions of text, font sizes etc.
David Arias is also a new inspiration to me. His work reminds me of Charlie Nash and David Airey’s work. The connection I am finding with all of these designers, are the level of minimal detail that is very effective. His Party Pass work inspired me to think about doing a logo that includes bits of myself as well as what I do. I decided to draw all different images that reminded me of ‘dream, discover and design’ that I could use as a series link for my own branding.
I drew out a load of different sketches, trying to think of what comes into my mind when I think of these three words. I ended up keeping the sketches really simple in the end, as the more complicated ones went a little too far off tangent. I decided on having the idea of a brain that looks like a cloud, a fingerprint mark and a pen drawing a line. I feel I have a lot of ideas for my own brand now, and I would like to practice on my ideas digitally and see what one seems the most appropriate to use.
