Greasers in the media and music (then and today)

Greasers have appeared a lot more in the media than you may have first assumed. The style of the greasers especially was used in many of the films in the late 70’s/80’s movies. The slicked hairstyles with the plain t-shirts and tights jeans portrayed their typical look, as well as influence their attitude.

The major 1978 film Grease, depicted a typical greaser (Danny Zuko) as the main character. His rebellious attitude and his love of modifying cars gave a clear symbol to what a Greaser was like especially in the 50’s.

Greasers were typically huge fans of rock. Elvis Presley was a huge influence on the Greasers with his style, music taste and attitude. You can see the similarities with the style that the rock bands dressed, and how the Greasers would dress. The leather jackets, neutral colours and gelled hair were a common match, as I would see.
